Job Overview
Location: Kitchener, Ontario
Structure: Detached two-story house with double garage
Problem: Suspected bat activity in the attic
Service: Bat removal and exterior exclusion
Visits: 3
Summary
Pest Control Kitchener was contacted after the homeowner reported late-night attic noise consistent with bat activity. Our team completed a staged bat removal process that respected seasonal restrictions, addressed the primary entry point, and reinforced vulnerable soffit areas. All work was completed humanely and in accordance with wildlife best practices.
Background / Property Context
The property is a detached two-story residential home with a double garage. The exterior includes brick cladding with soffit and roofline intersections that can create small gaps over time due to weathering and material movement.
Customer Concern
The homeowner reported ongoing noise in the attic during nighttime hours. The timing and nature of the activity raised concerns about bats roosting within the attic space.
Inspection & Findings
During the initial exterior inspection, our technician identified staining and gap formations along a soffit-to-roof intersection. These areas showed signs consistent with repeated wildlife entry and exit activity. No interior inspection was required at this stage due to clear exterior indicators.
Cause Analysis
Bats commonly access attic spaces through small gaps along rooflines and soffit intersections. In this case, aging sealant and construction seams along the soffit wall created suitable access points. These elevated, undisturbed areas provide bats with shelter and stable roosting conditions.
Treatment / Removal
Because the inspection occurred during bat maternity season, immediate installation of a one-way door was deferred to comply with humane wildlife standards. Initial work focused on partial exclusion to limit further access while allowing existing bats to remain undisturbed until the appropriate removal window.
Following the end of bat baby season, a one-way exclusion door was installed over the identified primary entry point to allow bats to exit naturally and prevent re-entry.
Exclusion & Repairs
Approximately fifteen feet of soffit wall gaps were sealed using exterior-grade sealant and galvanized steel mesh. After confirming that bat activity had ceased, the one-way door was removed, and the remaining opening was permanently sealed. All previously completed exclusion work was re-inspected to confirm integrity.
Outcome & Confirmation
At the final visit, the homeowner reported no further attic activity. The exclusion system was intact, the one-way door had been successfully removed, and no new entry points were observed. The bat removal process was completed without further issues.
Technician Notes
The work was carried out over three visits by our technician, Andrew. Exterior inspection and staged exclusion allowed for humane bat removal while ensuring long-term protection of the structure. Visible staining, sealed soffit gaps, and installed mesh reinforcement were documented during the process, with no further wildlife activity reported after completion.
