Squirrel Attic Entry Sealed at Soffit–Wall Intersection in Kitchener

Job Overview

Location: Kitchener, Ontario
Structure: Detached two-storey house with double garage
Problem: Early-morning attic noise consistent with squirrel activity
Service: Squirrel removal and full exterior exclusion
Visits: 2

Summary

Pest Control Kitchener responded to reports of attic wildlife activity. Upon inspection it was a squirrel that had entered the attic. A full roof inspection identified a primary squirrel entry at a soffit–wall intersection, along with multiple secondary risk points on roof penetrations. A humane, non-lethal removal process was completed using a one-way door, followed by comprehensive exclusion and a confirmation visit.

Background / Property Context

The property is a two-storey detached home with multiple roof planes, vents, and soffit transitions. These features commonly present access opportunities for climbing wildlife if not fully sealed.

Customer Concern

The homeowner reported repeated early-morning noises above the living space, suggesting active wildlife movement in the attic.

Inspection & Findings

During the initial exterior inspection, our technician identified an active opening at a soffit–wall intersection consistent with squirrel entry. Additional roof penetrations, including several roof vents and a plumbing vent, were observed as potential secondary access points requiring reinforcement.

Cause Analysis

Squirrels commonly exploit weakened or flexible building transitions such as soffit intersections, especially on multi-level homes. Roof penetrations and vents can also become access points over time if left unprotected. The combination of accessible rooflines and existing gaps allowed wildlife entry into the attic space.

Treatment / Removal

A humane one-way door was installed over the primary soffit–wall entry to allow squirrels to exit naturally while preventing re-entry. No trapping or lethal measures were used. This approach aligns with standard non-lethal wildlife removal practices.

Exclusion & Repairs

Following removal, full exterior exclusion was completed:

  • The primary entry point and surrounding areas were sealed using galvanized steel mesh.
  • Seven roof vents were secured with galvanized steel vent cages.
  • One plumbing vent was reinforced with galvanized steel mesh.
  • Approximately fifteen feet of additional vulnerable areas were sealed to prevent future access.

Visible in the photos are securely fastened vent covers, reinforced soffit intersections, and properly installed exclusion materials integrated with the existing roof and siding.

Outcome & Confirmation

On the follow-up visit, the homeowner reported no further wildlife activity. The one-way door was removed, the entry point was permanently sealed, and all exclusion work was inspected. No signs of continued squirrel presence were observed, and the attic remained quiet following completion.

Technician Notes

The work was carried out over two visits by our technician, Andrew, with a focus on identifying both the active entry point and all secondary risk areas. Final inspection confirmed the exclusion was intact and functioning as intended.
