Squirrel Exclusion and Structural Sealing – Commercial Warehouse, Kitchener

Job Overview

Location: Kitchener, Ontario
Structure: Large commercial warehouse
Problem: Squirrels accessing multiple areas of the building through numerous openings
Service: Squirrel removal and exclusion
Visits: 3

Summary

We were contacted to assess ongoing squirrel activity at a large commercial warehouse. An initial inspection identified widespread access points along the roofline, walls, vents, and foundation. Due to the scope of work, service was completed over multiple visits and focused on humane removal, extensive exclusion, and confirmation of long-term resolution.

Background / Property Context

The property is a large industrial warehouse with metal siding, roof penetrations, wall vents, and sections of exposed foundation. The size and construction style created multiple transition points where building materials met, increasing the risk of wildlife entry if gaps were present.

Customer Concern

The customer reported squirrels moving through different areas of the warehouse and expressed concern about ongoing access, potential damage, and the number of visible openings around the structure.

Inspection & Findings

During the first visit, our technician conducted a full interior and exterior inspection. Numerous openings were observed along the roofline, wall interfaces, plumbing vents, and at the base of the foundation. Several gaps were large enough to allow squirrel entry, and evidence suggested repeated use of these access points.

Photos from the inspection show open gaps behind wall panels, exposed foundation voids, unsecured vent penetrations on the roof, and damaged or missing materials at grade level.

Cause Analysis

Squirrels are strong climbers and routinely exploit elevated rooflines, vents, and construction gaps to access large commercial structures. Over time, building movement, weather exposure, and aging materials can create multiple entry points. Once access is established, squirrels may use several openings simultaneously rather than relying on a single entry location.

Treatment / Removal

Following customer approval of the quoted work, humane wildlife control measures were implemented. A squirrel one-way door was installed at an active entry point to allow animals to exit without re-entry. A skunk one-way door was also installed at the foundation where ground-level access was identified, addressing all wildlife activity observed during inspection.

Exclusion & Repairs

Exclusion work focused on long-term prevention:

  • Approximately fifty feet of openings were sealed using galvanized steel mesh
  • Two roof plumbing vents were secured with galvanized steel mesh to prevent access
  • Ten feet of trenching was completed along the foundation, followed by galvanized steel mesh installation to block underground and surface-level entry
  • Wall and vent openings were reinforced where gaps were present

Photos show mesh securely fastened over vents, wall penetrations, and foundation gaps, providing durable protection without restricting building function.

Outcome & Confirmation

On the final visit, the customer reported that wildlife activity had ceased. All one-way doors were removed, and previously completed exclusion work was inspected and confirmed intact. No further squirrel or wildlife activity was observed or reported, and the job was completed successfully.

Technician Notes

Andrew completed the inspections, coordinated the multi-visit service plan, and verified that all exclusion work remained secure at completion. The structure was left fully sealed against further wildlife entry.
